Course Outline

D A Y  1

Morning Session:

  • Environmental Quality (EQ) on Scheduled Wastes Regulations 2005 PDF File
  • Introduction to scheduled waste management in the industries
  • Notification of generation of scheduled waste
  • Basic understanding on the handling, labelling, storage and disposal of scheduled wastes

Afternoon Session:

  • Monitoring, tracking and record keeping of inventory of scheduled waste in the facility.
  • Submission of inventory of scheduled waste to DOE (Director General)
  • All the Schedules (1 to 7) as mentioned in the EQ Regulation on Scheduled Wastes 2005
  • The responsibilities of generators, transporter and collector
  • How to identify the scheduled waste under waste management system – determine whether it meet the waste definition. Getting exemption

D A Y  2

Morning Session:

  • Link to DOE website on e-consignment
  • E-waste and special waste – what special precaution needed to be taken (asbestos, radioactive material, clinical waste)
  • Licences for transporting and treatment of scheduled waste
  • Recycle, Reuse, and Reduce (and be Responsible)
  • Treatment of scheduled waste by means of (i) Solidification (ii) Incineration (iii) Landfill (iv)

Afternoon Session:

  • Physical and Chemical treatment
  • Examples of some reclaim (recycling) of scheduled waste in the industries (spent solvent, waste oil contaminated cotton rags/cotton gloves)
  • Emergency response action (ERA) during spillage/ leakage / accidental discharge of scheduled waste during transportation, storage, handling and treatment
  • Illegal dumping of scheduled waste and the compounding of the offences
  • DOE (JAS) environmental programs
