Communication, both presentation and writing competencies, is one of the core competencies amidst other business skills. Writing is a key method of communication for most people and it’s one that many people struggle with. Does writing come naturally to you or do you hesitate, stumble and lose time trying to put your thoughts together? Think about the people who read your documents – are you convinced that they are getting your intended message? Poorly written communication can damage your organisation’s image and lose business opportunities. On the verbal communication element, powerspeak is an important tool, added key to leadership success and valued skill to enhance communication efficiency, be it presenting ideas in meetings, being persuasive with customers and your superiors or talking to subordinates and colleagues.

DAY 1

MODULE 1: POWERSPEAK FUNDAMENTALS

  • Purpose of powerspeak, a tool not limited to public speaking
  • 55-38-7 Mehrabian model of communication
  • 7Cs of key communication keys
  • Understanding Communication styles to communicate effectively
  • Barriers of communication and ways to overcome or enhance
  • Self-empowerment to be a better speaker

MODULE 2: POWERSPEAK ENHANCEMENT

  • Brain-mapping to convey or present an intended message
  • Know the common speaking mistakes to avoid
  • Presenting ideas in a structured manner – What you wanted to say and How you say the message
  • Speaking on your feet – managing speech where you do not have time to organize your thoughts against the words you intend to say
  • Power of word choices – to instil understanding and persuasion from your message
DAY 2

MODULE 3: EFFECTIVE BUSINESS WRITING

  • Writing and Brand Image
  • Write in the shoes of the reader
  • STRUCTURE OF WRITING
  • Develop a systematic Writing Plan
    • Planning : sharpening the mind with 6 FRAMES of thinking the information to put in relevant information in the message
    • Writing : avoid copy and paste
    • Editing : challenge the writing with examining the logical flow of thoughts if the reader could understand your intended message
      • K.I.S.S the writing to avoid unnecessary lengthy mail
    • Proofreading to ensure all relevant information has been included and the format is neat and sound

MODULE 4: PROFESSIONAL EMAIL AND ETIQUETTES

  • Understand the difference in writing format to internal staff and external contacts
  • Significant and eye-catching Subject matter to attract reader to prioritise reading
  • Appropriate and accurate salutation
  • 1-page View Message - don't make me scroll!
  • Clean format: Introduction / Body / Conclusion - proper paragraphing
  • Precise sentence construction - don't make me guess what you are trying to say
  • Dos and Don'ts with Font size, font type, font color, bold and underline
  • Check spelling, grammar, tonality, right vocabulary before click "send"
  • Not advisable: "My reply in colored coded text" - Why?
  • Do away with acronyms and social media symbols
  • Appropriating charts, pictures and tables within the email page
  • Is it alright to put our own tagline?
  • Understanding c.c and b.c.c
  • Closing sentence and call-to-action
